Why We Ask

Every question Cara asks serves a clear purpose: keeping you safer, better informed, and more prepared for conversations with your healthcare providers. Here is exactly how each category of data is used.

Allergies & Adverse Reactions

When you add a medicine, Cara compares it with the allergies you listed. Cara shows a warning if it finds a match, so you can raise it with your pharmacist or doctor.

Your allergies also appear in the pre-visit summaries Cara prepares and on your emergency card.

Medical Conditions

Your conditions help Cara pick which preventive screening reminders apply to you. Cara also gives your condition names to the AI so its check-in questions fit your situation.

Active conditions also appear on your emergency card and in pre-visit summaries, giving providers quick access to your most important health context.

Family Medical History

Family history is useful for your care team. Cara keeps it in your record and includes it in your health summary PDF. Cara does not yet use it to choose screening reminders.

You can bring the summary to a visit and talk about it with your provider.

Lifestyle & Behavioral Factors

Sleep, exercise, smoking, alcohol use, and diet are part of your health picture. Cara saves your answers from the intake questions in your record.

Cara also asks about your habits during check-ins. Cara does not use these answers to give you advice or to change your reminders.

Medications

Medications are the base of Cara's safety checks. When you add a medicine or change its dose, Cara compares it with your allergies and with your other medicines for interactions, using FDA label data and RxNorm names.

Your medication list is also tracked over time to maintain a change log, support refill reminders, and give providers a clear picture of your treatment history.

Vitals & Lab Results

Vitals and lab values are saved over time so you can see trends. Cara marks lab values that fall outside the reference range as high or low.

Your recent vitals go into the pre-visit summary, so you do not have to remember every number.

Symptoms

Symptoms are logged with severity, body location, and whether they are getting better or worse. You choose the trend when you log a symptom.

Your recent symptoms go into the pre-visit summary. This helps you tell your provider what happened and when.

Appointments & Visit Notes

Before each appointment, Cara compiles your medications, recent symptoms, and questions into a printable pre-visit summary so you walk in prepared and nothing gets forgotten.

After visits, post-visit notes capture what happened, what changed, and what to follow up on, so nothing falls through the cracks between appointments.

Wearable Device Data

If you connect an Omi pendant, Cara reads health mentions from your conversations, such as a medicine or a symptom. Cara puts them in your Review list for you to check.

Cara does not pull in heart rate, sleep or activity data.

Your Data, Your Control

Your health data is stored on Cara's server, in a database designed to be encrypted at rest. Cara sends some of it to Anthropic to write check-in replies (see the Privacy page). Cara does not sell your data.

You can download your main records or delete your account from the Tools page. You can see your choices on the Consent & Privacy page. Revoking a choice there is recorded, but it does not yet switch off the matching feature.
