Terms of Service
Please read these terms carefully before using Cara. They govern your access to and use of the Cara health information platform.
This document is a working draft and does not constitute a binding legal agreement until reviewed and finalized by a licensed attorney.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using Cara, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not create an account or use the service.
2. What Cara Is
Cara is a health information and organization tool. It helps you track medications, vitals, symptoms, and other health data in one place. Cara uses AI to help you organize and surface relevant health information.
Cara is not a medical device. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician or other qualified healthcare provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay in seeking it because of something you read or received through Cara.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use Cara. By creating an account, you represent that you are 18 or older.
If you are managing health data on behalf of another person, you must have the legal authority to do so. This includes, but is not limited to, power of attorney for healthcare decisions, legal guardianship, or other legally recognized healthcare authority.
4. Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your passphrase and for all activity that occurs under your account. Each person should maintain only one account. Notify us immediately if you believe your account has been compromised.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms of Service or that we reasonably believe are being used in an unauthorized or harmful manner.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use Cara for any of the following purposes:
- Emergency medical situations — In a medical emergency, call 911 or your local emergency number. Cara is not designed for emergency or crisis situations.
- Making treatment decisions without consulting a doctor — Cara provides health information, not medical advice. Always consult your healthcare provider before making changes to your treatment plan.
- Managing health data for someone without legal authority — You may only enter or manage another person's health information if you have the appropriate legal authorization to do so.
- Any illegal purpose — You may not use Cara in any way that violates applicable local, state, national, or international law.
6. Your Data
You own your health data. Cara stores it on your behalf, but it remains yours. You may export your main health records or delete your account and your records in Cara's database at any time. The Privacy Policy lists what the export covers and what deletion does not yet remove.
For details on how your data is collected, stored, and protected, please see our Privacy Policy.
7. AI-Generated Content
Cara uses artificial intelligence to write check-in questions, follow-up messages, and health summaries. Drug interaction checks use FDA data. Cara scans AI responses for certain phrases that sound like medical advice, but this scan does not catch everything.
However, AI-generated content may still contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. Always verify health information with your healthcare provider before acting on it. Cara's AI features are informational aids, not clinical tools.
8. Limitation of Liability
Cara is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
In no event shall Cara, its developers, operators, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from your use of or inability to use the service.
We are not liable for any health decisions made based on information provided by or organized through Cara. You are solely responsible for your health decisions and should always consult qualified healthcare professionals.
9. Pilot Program
Cara is currently in a pilot program. During this period, the service is provided free of charge. As a pilot participant, you understand and acknowledge that:
- Features may be added, changed, or removed as we refine the service.
- The service may experience occasional downtime or interruptions.
- Features may change, and we will try to tell you about significant changes.
- You may leave the pilot at any time and export or delete your data.
10. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. When we make changes, we will update this page.
Your continued use of Cara after any changes to these terms constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with the updated terms, you should discontinue use of the service.
